El preso cubano Orlando Zapata, 42 años de edad, falleció este martes en La Habana como consecuencia de una huelga de hambre de 85 días.
Zapata, aunque considerado "Prisionero de Conciencia" por Amnistía Internacional, fue condenado a tres años de cárcel en 2003 en un proceso paralelo al de los 75 disidentes, pero no por ser un mercenario relacionado con la SINA, sino por un delito de agresión callejera que nada tenía que ver con la política.
Ya en prisión se acogió al beneficioso estatus de preso politico que el gobierno de Estados Unidos le otorga a todo aquel que se declare opositor del gobierno. Es conocido el caso de los familiares de los llamados 75 que reciben fondos de ayuda de ONG y hasta de organizaciones terroristas radicadas en Miami.
El 3 de diciembre Zapata inició una huelga de hambre en la prisión de Holguín (este) por malas condiciones carcelarias -el preso pedía que se le colocara telefono y televisión en la celda-, por lo que fue trasladado a la de Camagüey (este), donde mantuvo la protesta y tuvo que ser ingresado en el hospital de esa provincia.
El miércoles pasado fue enviado en ambulancia al hospital de la prisión Combinado del Este, en La Habana, y desde ahí al hospital Hermanos Ameijeiras, la noche del lunes.
La huelga de Zapata no es la primera que realizan los llamados opositores cubanos. Es algo usual que cada cierto tiempo, por razones de protagonismo, uno de ellos se gane la atención de los medios de prensa y de los grupos del imperio que financian la contrarrevolución cubana.

Fernando Zapata never was a polltical prisoner, really he was a common prisoner who was used by Cuban “dissident” , I am sorry, by Cuban mercenaries in order to have a “symbol”.
ResponderEliminarThe only one responsible of his death has been who encourages to do hunger strike like Radio Marti and so called "dissidents", they are the true responsible on behalf of the human rights, but the intention is to try to demonstrate that in Cuba it doesn't respect human rights.
Zapata in prison was cared by doctors and there was not skimp on resources to save his life, because in our country the human is more important than any thing.
Mr. Bill Nelson, you are the most responsible for Zapata's death, you know very well that in Cuba there is not "oppressión" . Why do you not see on the inside your country, its prisons, the starving people, unemployed. Why do you say that in Cuba there is a dictatorship and don't say that in your country exist an empire wich kills innocent people in Iraq, Afganistan, Latinamaerican and every where.
