Sr.Barack Obama, Presidente de los Estados Unidos de América:
La mayoría de nosotros recordará los detalles mínimos de aquel 17 de diciembre del 2014. Porque una persona sabe cuándo está viviendo un momento histórico. Aquel día, usted afirmó que seguiría apoyando a la sociedad civil en Cuba. Nosotros, como parte de la sociedad civil de este país, queremos hacerle una petición.
Somos vecinos de un barrio habanero localizado en Miramar, bien cercano a una iglesia y un parque que lleva el nombre de un extraordinario ser humano: Mahatma Gandhi, alguien capaz de transformar el mundo con el poder de su ética, como afirmó usted al visitar el Memoriala ese gran hombre en la India. Tradicionalmente, este espacio ha sido centro de la vida social de nuestra comunidad. Cada domingo, los ancianos tenían allí sesiones del milenario taichí, los feligreses de la Iglesia de Santa Rita se sentaban luego de asistir a las misas, los niños tenían un lugar ideal para el esparcimiento. Pero todo eso acabó.
Desde hace más de seis meses, cada domingo irrumpen la tranquilidad del vecindario unas señoras que se hacen llamar "Damas de Blanco", acompañadas por varios hombres. Sus manifestaciones no tienen un ápice de pacifismo, ni de ética, ni de autenticidad. Señor Presidente, las Damas de Blanco y la campaña "Todos Marchamos"provocan disturbios y escenas bastante desagradables.
¿Quién, Señor Presidente, puede arrogarse el derecho de decir frases obscenas frente a niños y ancianos?
¿Acaso no es una paradoja que quienes dicen luchar por los derechos humanos ofendan y vapuleen a sus coterráneos?
Nosotros trabajamos duro para progresar, al igual que su pueblo Señor Presidente. El tiempo libre que nos queda tratamos de aprovecharlo para compartir con nuestras familias y amigos. Nos preguntamos entonces de qué viven estas "damas", que tienen tiempo de sobra y pueden darse el lujo de protestar, como si fuera un programa de trabajo que las lleva en lugar de a un momento de _paz con Dios y con la gente, a una atormentada falta de civismo.
Tal vez usted tenga referencias diferentes al respecto, pero nosotros no tenemos razón alguna para mentirle a Usted.
Señor Obama, las "Damas de Blanco" se muestran explícitamente en contra de la política de su administración respecto a Cuba. Apoyan el embargo, ese que Usted exhortó a derogar en su discurso más reciente sobre el Estado de la Unión. Que desaparezca el bloqueo (como le decimos aquí) es deseo profundo de la sociedad civil cubana. Usted lo sabe.
¿De qué manera puede catalogarse una persona que desea el mal al país donde viven y a su gente? Son cosas que nos hacen daño, y que están lejos de las esencias comunes y los sentimientos de los cubanos y los americanos.
Dudamos que alguien con este comportamiento tenga la decencia elemental de las buenas personas y la capacidad de ser buenos vecinos. Tampoco creemos que puedan convivir civilizadamente, no solo con los barrios y comunidades en nuestro país, sino incluso con su nación, cuando la mayoría concentra esfuerzos para sanar y fortalecer lazos entre ambas orillas.
Le pedimos que, en la medida de sus posibilidades, influya para que estas personas dejen de molestarnos los domingos. Porque quien realmente exige derechos lo hace a través de la razón, y no mediante alaridos, frases de mal gusto y agresiones a los vecinos.Queremos que el Parque Mahatma Gandhi vuelva a rendir honor a su nombre.
Usted ha dicho que confía en el pueblo cubano. Por eso le hacemos llegar esta solicitud. Confíe en nosotros, vecinos y ciudadanos de una nación que quiere y ama la paz.

Most of us shall always remember even the smallest details of the Wednesday, December 1ih 2014.Because people know when they live a historical moment.That day, you declared the willingness of your government to maintain the support to the civil society in Cuba. We, as part of the civil society of this country, want to make you a request.
Our neighborhood is in Miramar, Playa (a municipality at the west of Havana). Nearby of our homes, there is a church, and a park thatbears the name ofan extraordinary human being: Mahatma Gandhi, someone capable of transforming the world with the power of his ethic, as you said when you visited the Memorial in his honor in India. Traditionally, this space has been the center of the social life in our community. Every Sunday, elders gathered to pra"Ctice the millenarian Tai chi, believers and devotees of Santa Rita used to sit in the park after the sermon, children have an ideal place to amusement. But now, everything is over.
For more than six months, our calm has been disrupted by some women called herself "Ladies in White" ("Damas de Blanco") and various men who escort them. Their manifestations are not peaceable, ethical or authentic. Not at all. Mr. President, those women and the "TodosMarchamos" campaign go to the street to provoke disturbs, disorder and disagreeable scenes.
Who, Mr. President, have the right to say obscene phrases in front of our children and elder people? ls not offending and beating people a paradoxical behavior for those who say they're fighting for human rights?
Every day, wewake up and work hard for our progress, as your people do, Mr. President. We try to spend our free moments with family and friends. What do these "ladies" do for living?Apparently, they have time enough to protest, as it was part of an agenda that take them not precisely to a peaceful moment with God and people, but toa tormented incivility. Have someone who doesn't work the moral or the leadership, to demand anything to the society?
Perhaps, you've been informed about this with a different perspective but, Mr. President, we have no reason to lie about it.
Mr. Obama, "Damas de Blanco" and "TodosMarchamos" are explicitly against the policy to Cuba that your administration started and is carrying on. They support the embargo, something that you suggested to derogate in your last State of the Union Balancing Act.lt's a matter of facts that all of the Cuban civil society expects the end of these politic. You know it.
What do you think about those who wish bad things for their own land and for people who live in there? Situations like this hurt us, and are far from common essences and feelings of both Cubans and Americans.
We do not believe in people with this behavior. The only thing they demonstrate is an enormous inability to be good neighbors and to maintain a civilized coexistence, not only with us or other neighborhood and communities in Cuba, but also even with your nation, especially in a moment when efforts and willingness are concentrated to heal and strength ties between the two shores.
According to your prerogatives, we'd like you to help us to achieve that these persons stop disrupting our peace. Those who claim for their rights, do it through the reason, and not with screaming and aggressions. We want Mahatma Gandhi Park will render honor to his name again.
You've said that you trust in Cuban people, that's why we make you this request. Trust in us, neighbors and citizens who want and love the peace.
